The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca Sant Joan de Déu is an entity created in 2002 to cover the research activity that is carried out, both in the biomedical and social sphere, at the Maternal and Infantile Hospital of Esplugues, in the Parc Sanitari de Sant Boi de Llobregat and in other centers of the Hospital Order San Juan de Dios - Province of Aragon San Rafael.

Job description

 

BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center is conducting a research project to develop an artificial placenta, which involves animal experimentation. We are looking for a passionate individual to work as a Senior Engineer to perform a key position.

 

Context:
BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center, directed by Prof. Eduard Gratacós, is a multidisciplinary research centre in fetal and perinatal medicine, recognised as one of the world’s best research teams in the field.

Accredited by the Spanish government as an excellence research centre, it works to find solutions to diseases of prenatal origin. The centre is ranked among the top international research groups in maternal-fetal medicine.

BCNatal-FMRC is the research branch of the BCNatal clinical centre, providing a privileged environment for clinically applicable and translational research.

Main purpose of the job:
• Integration of new equipment/devices and existing ones within the project system.
• Testing of new components and monitoring of these components during experiments.
• Maintenance of integrated components and integration of new ones without limiting the progress of the experiment.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:
• Contacting suppliers and managing purchases of equipment/tracking new devices and their integration into the current system.
• Writing and updating standardized protocols and troubleshooting content.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems in real-time with a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
• Creating and updating the prototypes for training purposes and keeping up-to-date the training protocols.
• Providing prompt responses to daily issues, confirming received requests, and ensuring smooth flow of information.
• Effectively working with the agile method of senior coordinators and project managers.
• Collaborative communication with the junior staff of integration and development for quick and smooth integrations.
• Documenting testing phases and versions of new devices to facilitate agile feedback and iteration process.
• Agile management of project priorities, resources, and initiatives.
• Performing other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job description as requested by the Project Manager, Principal Investigator, Scientific Manager, or Chief Investigator. This job description is subjected to review and amendment as duties and responsibilities change/develop in consultation with the post holder. The appointee will be expected to carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Other tasks:
• Presenting research results at national and international conferences or events.
• Maintaining accurate records and documenting actions taken.
• Ensuring prompt and efficient response to queries (daily troubleshooting), acknowledging all communication, and ensuring efficient flow of information.
• Complying with the 4Rs (reduction, reuse, recycling, and recovery) and ethical guidelines regarding the use of animals in research.

Requirements

Profile Requirements:

• Scientific/engineering Ph.D. with academic training in prototype integration and innovative device integration into complex systems.
• Individuals should have a highly practical approach to work, be familiar with and interested in technological innovation in a hospital setting, prioritize rapid implementation, and prioritize the needs of end users. Previous experience in the biomedical sector and collaboration with medical personnel is highly valued. Candidates are expected to have strong organizational skills in terms of test documentation, communication with the rest of the team, and task management. An open attitude towards communication with professionals from different fields, as well as a willingness to learn new topics and skills, will be particularly valuable.

Requirements

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Master's and/or Ph.D. degree related to systems engineering, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, health engineering, or similar fields where the development of prototyping and integration in complex systems is evident.

Relevant Professional Experience:
• Experience in prototyping and integration of prototypes into existing systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience working in a research environment and/or technological start-up.
• Ability to prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication skills with junior and senior staff from different areas.
• Demonstrated participation in innovation projects.
