Laboratory technician FP qualification preferably with certification to work with
experimental animals (Funcions B i C, Generalitat de Catalunya certified).
BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center, directed by Prof. Eduard Gratacós, is a
multidisciplinary research centre in fetal and perinatal medicine, recognised as one of the
world’s best research teams in the field.
Accredited by the Spanish government as an excellence research centre, it works to find
solutions to diseases of prenatal origin. The centre is ranked among the top international
research groups in maternal-fetal medicine.
BCNatal-FMRC is the research branch of the BCNatal clinical centre, providing a privileged
environment for clinically applicable and translational research.
Main purpose of the job
• Monitor and control animal well-being
• Collect and process biological samples
• Collect and entry experimental data in data bases
• Biobank management of biological samples
• Surgery assistance: prepare operating room for surgery, assist surgeons, and participate
in experimental procedures
• Organization of laboratory: reagent preparation, inventories, and material purchases
Main duties and responsibilities
• Learn and follow established protocols (SOPs)
• Monitor animals and experimental setting (monitoring turns include morning and
afternoon shifts, and occasional night shift with standard night compensation)
• Collect experimental data at the indicated times
• Collect, process, and properly store biological samples. Histology tissue processing
experience will be valued
• Maintain sample biobank updated
• Keep accurate records and document actions taken
• Entry of experimental data into the project databases
• Prepare material, reagents, and medication for surgical procedures
• Assist during experiments
• Keep laboratory reagents and supplies in stock
• Place laboratory orders
• Receive and store laboratory supplies
• Manage laboratory inventories (supplies, medications, and samples)
• Maintain and safely operate laboratory equipment
• Maintain lab clean and an orderly condition, using aseptic techniques
• Ensure prompt and efficient response to queries (daily trouble shooting),
acknowledging all communication, and ensuring efficient flow of information
• Comply with the 4Rs (reduction, reuse, recycling and recovery) and ethics involving
animals in research
• Perform other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job description
as requested by the Senior Coordinators, Project Manager, Principal Investigator,
Scientific Manager or the Chief Investigator. This job description reflects the present
requirements of the post, and as duties and responsibilities change/develop, the job
description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post
holder. The appointee will be expected to carry out any additional duties as may
reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
