The Epidemiology of Mental Disorders and Prevention of mental disorders group is part of the of the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD), a biomedical research centre made up from SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital and Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, and three research institutes, Institute of Biomedicine (IBUB) and the Institute of Neurosciences (UBneuro), both of them from the Universitat de Barcelona, and the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (CREB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. It also belongs to the Mental Health CIBER (CIBERSAM) and is a consolidated group recognized by AGAUR (2017SGR 1361). Among others, the group has participated in large multinational projects in epidemiology, such as the WHO World Mental Health Surveys initiative or the Global Burden of Disease Project. The group has recently coordinated the European project ATHLOS, a project in which data from 18 studies have been harmonized and a database has been created with more than 380,000 people and more than 220 variables that have been followed up for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 24 years. This is an unprecedented database that we are beginning to analyse and making it available to the scientific community. As a result of this project, the group initiated the coordination of the SYNCRHOS project. SYNCHROS is an EU-funded project (GA nº825884) that aims to establish a sustainable European strategy for the development of the next generation of integrated population, patient and clinical trial cohorts. Through intensive collaboration with stakeholders (e.g. researchers, funding bodies, coordinators of cohort harmonisation and integration initiatives, policymakers) SYNCHROS created an strategic agenda for an enhanced coordination and better collaboration of cohorts globally, thereby providing practical, ethical, legal and methodological recommendations for an optimal exploitation of cohort health data. The group is currently working on generating strategies to prevent mental disorders, using new technologies. One of these studies, coordinated by the group, is the EMPOWER project (Horizon 2020 – GA nº 848180), a clinical trial carried out in SMEs and public agencies in which we are analysing the effectiveness of a program for self-management of psychological suffering through an app in 4 European countries (UK, Poland, Finland and Spain). In 2020, a European project of which we are coordinators (EMPOWER) is launched, which develops an app with similar objectives. In addition, the group actively leads and collaborates on different national and international projects like the RADAR-CNS, EDIT-B and RESPOND. Our group is looking for candidates for a postdoctoral research position with proven experience in biomedical research in the field of Epidemiology, Mental Health and/or ICT technologies.
