Job description

The ideal candidate will be a PhD student with prior experience in conducting research with infants, using experimental techniques such as eye-tracker, Head-Turn Preference Procedure, EEG. The candidate will have statistical skills (e.g., ttests, ANOVA, regression) and basic knowledge of R and MATLAB. The successful candidate will have theoretical knowledge of cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, with a focus on developmental neuroscience, acquired during the master degree.

The student will work along with the PI and the team, thus organizational and communication skills will be key. Part of the studies will be conducted at Sant Joan de Deu Hospital, and part of the studies at the Center for Brain and Cognition (CBC) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Both centers are located in Barcelona

 

Functions:

During the course of the PhD program, the student is expected to learn to design experiments with newborns and infants using spectroscopy (e.g., fNIRS) as well as behavioral paradigms (e.g., eye-tracker), including the preparation of materials for the experiments (e.g., stimuli), under the PI’s supervision. The student is expected to collect data, thus knowledge of Spanish (or willingness to learn) will be necessary to communicate with infants’ families. The student is expected to

analyze data, interpret results, write scientific articles and present conference proceedings, under the PI’s supervision. Good English skills (written and spoken) will be necessary.

 

We offer:

Requirements

  • hold a Master Degree/MSc in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology or any related field
  • demonstrate research experience with infants with behavioral paradigms (e.g., eye-tracker) and/or neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG, fNIRS).
  • have statistical analysis skills (e.g., ttest, ANOVAs, regression)
  • have minimum knowledge of programming softwares (e.g., MATLAB, R)
  • organizational and communication skills to be able to work in a team
