The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca Sant Joan de Déu is an entity created in 2002 to cover the research activity that is carried out, both in the biomedical and social sphere, at the Maternal and Infantile Hospital of Esplugues, in the Parc Sanitari de Sant Boi de Llobregat and in other centers of the Hospital Order San Juan de Dios - Province of Aragon San Rafael.

Job description

The Pediatric Hematologic Malignancies Research Program, a joint initiative between the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) and the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (SJD), is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cytomics Specialist to lead and manage the newly established Cytometry Unit. This is a key role within a dynamic and collaborative research environment focused on advancing pediatric leukemia research.

 

Main Responsabilities

- Lead the daily operations of the Cytometry Unit, ensuring optimal performance and maintenance of flow cytometry analysers and cell sorter equipment.
- Provide expert guidance and technical support to researchers in experimental design, panel development, and data analysis.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies and protocols to enhance the unit’s capabilities.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Train and mentor users in cytometry techniques, instrument operation, and data interpretation. Organize seminars, courses, and training programs for internal and external users, serving as a key representative and ambassador of the cytometry unit.
- Collaborate with research teams to support cutting-edge projects in rare cell detection and functional assays.
- Manage scheduling, budgeting, and procurement for the Cytometry Unit, ensuring its sustainability.
- Contribute to laboratory management tasks to ensure a well-organised and efficient research environment.

Requirements

- PhD in Life Sciences, or a related field.
- Extensive hands-on experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting, including multi-colour panel design, calibration, high-throughput approaches, and proactive troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with cytometry software (e.g., FACSDiva, FlowJo, FCS Express, Cytobank) and data analysis workflows.
- Familiarity with immunology, haematology, or oncology research is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strategic mindset,
- Experience managing a core facility or research platform is a plus.
- High proficiency in Spanish and English; knowledge of Catalan is an asset.
