Job description

Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (HSJD) is an internationally renowned healthcare institution specializing in pediatric and adolescent care, located in Barcelona. Founded on a strong tradition of clinical excellence and a firm commitment to innovation, HSJD has become one of the leading centers for pediatric biomedical research in Europe. The institution combines the provision of highly complex healthcare services with intensive research, training, and knowledge-transfer activities, positioning itself as a key player within Catalonia’s biomedical innovation ecosystem. HSJD stands out for its humanistic approach to patient care, patient-centered clinical excellence, the development of advanced diagnostics and therapies, and the generation of scientific evidence aimed at improving the health and quality of life of the pediatric population, particularly in the field of rare diseases and complex conditions.

Within HSJD, the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Learning (DRIA) serves as the strategic structure responsible for facilitating, promoting, coordinating, and consolidating scientific research, innovation, and education as core pillars of the institution. DRIA acts as a bridge between clinical activity, researchers, and the broader research and innovation ecosystem, generating synergies that enhance knowledge creation and the transfer of results into clinical practice. Through the development of policies, strategies, and research-promotion plans, DRIA guides the growth of HSJD’s research portfolio and facilitates access for clinical staff to research activities. DRIA works transversally with all hospital areas and with the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD), fostering a culture of research and innovation that strengthens HSJD’s position as a national and international reference center in pediatric biomedical research.

DRIA is looking for a highly experienced professional to take on the role of Senior Research Coordinator. This is a strategic and pivotal position for the development and consolidation of research as a fundamental pillar of our institution.

The selected candidate will provide direct support to DRIA in the effective implementation of HSJD’s Research Promotion Plan and in the development of the institutional research strategy, including strategic relationships with other research centers at the local, national, and international levels. The professional will work transversally with multiple areas of the hospital and the IRSJD, ensuring alignment between research initiatives and the organization’s strategic research objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of HSJD’s Research Promotion Plan, ensuring its monitoring, development, and compliance with established objectives, timelines, and indicators.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and updating of HSJD’s institutional research strategy in alignment with the hospital’s scientific priorities.
  • Provide support to HSJD researchers in the development of their scientific activity.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that promote excellence, transparency, and good research practices.
  • Facilitate collaboration among clinical, translational, and basic researchers; clinical units; scientific-technical support units; and management areas within HSJD, IRSJD, and collaborating centers to foster synergies and knowledge transfer.
  • Monitor indicators related to the implemented strategies and research performance, and prepare strategic reports for DRIA.
  • Support HSJD researchers, in collaboration with IRSJD, in identifying funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to institutional communication on research and innovation for both internal and external stakeholders.
