The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca Sant Joan de Déu is an entity created in 2002 to cover the research activity that is carried out, both in the biomedical and social sphere, at the Maternal and Infantile Hospital of Esplugues, in the Parc Sanitari de Sant Boi de Llobregat and in other centers of the Hospital Order San Juan de Dios - Province of Aragon San Rafael.

Job description

We are looking for a scientific project manager for the project “ÚNICAS. Implementation of a Pediatric Network for Personalised Medicine in rare pediatric diseases. A Pilot Project”, PMP22/00008, funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.

This is a multi-centre project lead by Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and involving 6 Comunidades Autónomas in Spain. The UNICAS project intends to establish a solid and sustainable Paediatric Research Network on Rare Diseases for Personalised Medicine in Spain, by means of the standardization of phenotypic and genotypic information (together with IMPaCT-Genome) and the implementation of common protocols with IMPaCT-Data through the OMOP common data model in the Spanish healthcare system. Its ultimate goal is to stratify children affected by rare diseases to improve diagnosis and medical treatments by creating a federated data platform and using AI. There are 4 subgroups of diseases: neurodevelopmental disorders, inherited metabolic diseases, neuromuscular disorders, epilepsies and other ultra-rare monogenic conditions.

This position will be located in the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management in Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital (HSJD), in coordination with the principal investigator and the Research Management team.

The Directorate of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management has an innovative approach to the management of research, innovation and teaching activities and oversees strategic institutional projects in these areas, such as the UNICAS project.

 

Key roles/responsibilities

  • Overview and coordination of a complex, multi-layered strategic institutional project.
  • Plan, execute and monitor the different activities of the project. Typical topics of work will be establishment and development of national and international pediatric networks, personalized medicine, biomarkers, rare diseases, mitochondrial and neuromuscular diseases, epileptic encephalopathies, syndromic neurodevelopmental disorders, Data standardization, share health data models, artificial intelligence health data, governance issues and sustainability aspects.
  • Gantt Chart follow up, monitoring work progress, risk management.
  • Data management plan preparation and follow up.
  • Organize and prepare project meetings, TC, workshop, conferences, scientific related committees (logistic, agenda, inviting participants, writing minutes, etc).
  • Responsible for the reporting:
    • High quality periodic financial and activity reports. Prepare deliverables and milestones according to deadlines.
    • Collecting partner's technical report and financial statements and monitoring
    • Writing Activity and Management reports
    • Review of partners’ technical report
  • Monitoring of ethical and regulatory process and compliance.
    • Assuring that project complies with ethical requirements
    • Management of timeline to ensure required ethical approvals are received on time in order for the  over whole project timeline can be respected
  • Communication and dissemination:
    • Prepare required documentation, presentations or materials
    • Internal communication with partners
    • Dissemination of project outcomes to all the interested stakeholders in an effective and innovative manner.
  • Administrative daily tasks:
    • Expenses follow-up according to budget plan and monitoring of personnel efforts.
    • Liaise with and support Hospital Sant Joan de Deu clinical personnel who participates in the project.
    • Providing guidance to project partners (scientific orientation, mitigation plan, ethical issues, work plan, etc)
    • Looking for providers, quotations, interface with third parties.
    • Support in preparing service contracts or other type or agreements to regulate the relationship with third parties.
    • Support to the PI hiring staff for the project (job offers, interviews…)
  • Participate in complementary grant applications to achieve project sustainability.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Research Management Office.

Requirements

 

Education and qualifications:

Required:

  • University degree, preferably in Life Science or International Relations.
  • Previous successful experience in Project Management of National or International Consortia.
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English, Spanish and Catalan.
  • Dynamic, proactive person with a demonstrated capacity of independent and team work.
  • Communication and organizational skills will be required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build fluid relationship with different types of stakeholders.
  • Used to work under pressure with strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing multiple sub-projects simultaneously.
  • Proven capacity to identify sources of project funding and grant writing.

Desired:

  • Master in Project Management

 

Experience and knowledge

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Project Management of coordinated projects within the health sector

Desired:

  • Experience in the development of: operation plans, risk management strategies, sustainability plans, governance models and business models.
  • Knowledge of the local and national health ecosystem and main stakeholders
  • Previous experience in personalized medicine or rare diseases
  • Previous experience preparing data management plan
