The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca Sant Joan de Déu is an entity created in 2002 to cover the research activity that is carried out, both in the biomedical and social sphere, at the Maternal and Infantile Hospital of Esplugues, in the Parc Sanitari de Sant Boi de Llobregat and in other centers of the Hospital Order San Juan de Dios - Province of Aragon San Rafael.

Job description

The Developmental Tumor Research Area led by Dr. Mora is currently looking for a Scientific Manager specialized in proposal writing to join our team at the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

The main aims of our research are to increase our capacity to cure childhood cancer through comprehensive and personalized care, to achieve new effective treatments for currently incurable cancers, to increase the number of surviving infants and to be a center open to the world.

Our group has experience in the coordination and participation in international research projects and we are determined to increase our degree of internationalization, leadership and participation in European programs with the support of a Scientific Manager.

The candidate will be integrated in the five research teams of the Developmental Tumor Research Area and work in coordination with the International Pre-Award team at Fundació Sant Joan de Déu.

 

Key roles/responsibilities

  • Support Principal Investigators of the Developmental Tumor Research Area in European and international research proposal writing.
  • Integrate in the dynamics of the research groups in order to know the members, the interests, the capacities and the portfolio of potential projects.
  • Analyze international funding sources in order to identify those most suitable to the research groups' project portfolio.
  • Analysis, follow-up and participate in initiatives, working groups and/or forums of interest to the groups. Specifically everything related to the Cancer Mission and Europe's beating cancer plan.
  • Establish and develop international pediatric networks dedicated to progress in the fields of, among others, pediatric oncological diseases, personalized medicine, biomarkers, advanced therapies, and/or rare diseases.
  • Attendance at events to establish new collaboration and contact with representatives and national contact points, especially in the framework of the proposal preparation.
  • Liason between the research group and the International Pre-Award team at Fundació Sant Joan de Déu.

Requirements

 

The candidate must have the following qualifications and skills

  • Doctoral degree in life sciences, preferably, in the developmental tumors field.
  • Knowledge and experience in writing and managing collaborative international research project applications to European Comission calls.
  • Knowledge of the EU R&D funding programmes (Horizon Europe, ERC, EU4Health, among others).
  • High level of spoken and written English (C1 level or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to write complex scientific texts in English.
  • Dynamic, proactive person with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build a fluid relationship with different types of collaborators and actors in the ecosystem.

The following qualifications will be positively considered:

  • Master in Project Management.
  • Experience in the field of developmental tumors, personalized medicine or rare diseases.
  • Experience in the development of operational plans, risk management strategies, sustainability plans, governance models and business models.
  • Knowledge of the local, national and international healthcare ecosystem and the main actors in these ecosystems.
