The Fundació Privada per a la Recerca Sant Joan de Déu is an entity created in 2002 to cover the research activity that is carried out, both in the biomedical and social sphere, at the Maternal and Infantile Hospital of Esplugues, in the Parc Sanitari de Sant Boi de Llobregat and in other centers of the Hospital Order San Juan de Dios - Province of Aragon San Rafael.

BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center is conducting a research project to develop an artificial placenta, which involves animal experimentation. We are looking for a passionate individual to work as Business Developer to perform a key position.

 

Context

BCNatal | Fetal Medicine Research Center, directed by Prof. Eduard Gratacós, is a multidisciplinary research centre in fetal and perinatal medicine, recognised as one of the world’s best research teams in the field.

Accredited by the Spanish government as an excellence research centre, it works to find solutions to diseases of prenatal origin. The centre is ranked among the top international research groups in maternal-fetal medicine.

BCNatal-FMRC is the research branch of the BCNatal clinical centre, providing a privileged environment for clinically applicable and translational research.

Main purpose of the job:
• Your main responsibility will be the detection and generation of new business opportunities for this project with the objective of materializing them into new contracts. You will carry out the negotiation of these new opportunities, in collaboration with the director of the project and the PM of the project.

Main duties and responsibilities:
• You will be responsible for identifying and materializing new funding opportunities for the project with the ultimate goal of materializing them into new contracts and ensuring the economic viability of the project.
• You will have a comprehensive understanding of the potential market for an Artificial Placenta including potential customers, competitors and technology partners among others.
• You will have a comprehensive understanding of the necessary steps to overcome in order to bring an Artificial Placenta to the market.
• You will be in charge of managing the studies about Intellectual Property and regulatory affairs (contact with AEMPS or AEM).
• You will manage the negotiation processes with different stakeholders.
• You will perform a global follow-up of the project status and achieved milestones.
• You will prepare and attend meetings at BCNatal-FMRC site or at the other party’s site.
• You will play a key role in overseeing the artificial placenta’s technology watch.
• You might attend several international events per year specialized in the sector.
• You will be able to collaborate in the preparation of technical proposals if required.
• Work in close collaboration within a larger team with the main aim of understanding the status and limitations of the systems.
• Perform other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job description as requested by the Project Manager, Principal Investigator, Scientific Manager or the Chief Investigator. This job description reflects the present requirements of the post, and as duties and responsibilities change/develop, the job description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder. The appointee will be expected to carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Other tasks:
• Presentation of research results at national and international meetings or events.
• Maintain accurate records and document actions taken.
• Ensure prompt and efficient response to queries (daily trouble shooting), acknowledging all communication, and ensuring efficient flow of information.

Requirements

Profile Requirements:

• University studies related to Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Engineering, etc. Master or Doctoral Thesis will be considered positively.
• You have experience of at least 5 years in business development/sales departments in pharmaceutical or biotech companies with international market. Previous experience in CMOs or service companies in the pharmaceutical industry will be highly valued.
• You are available to travel frequently.
• You have excellent social and communication skills.
• You have a high/very high knowledge of English that allows you to maintain both technical and colloquial interlocutions fluently.
• You have a high capacity to manage and work effectively within a team, with leadership.
• You have a good resistance to frustration and you are good at achieving medium/long-term objectives as a final result of intermediate successes.
• You are able to adapt your strategy according to variations observed in the environment/market.
• You demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
• You are comfortable and resilient in a changing environment and able to adjust your workload according to changing priorities.
• You are able to work quickly and accurately with a strong focus on detail in a rigorous manner.
